Cordish marks One Light anniversary with $3M renovation

The Cordish Companies has given its inaugural Kansas City tower — the One Light luxury apartments — a sprucing up ahead of its 10th birthday.
The Baltimore developer on Tuesday unveiled a $3 million renovation it completed to interior amenity and common spaces in the 25-story high-rise northwest of 13th and Walnut streets. The project encompassed a lobby revamp with upgraded lighting, seating and contemporary artwork; a renovated theater and social room on the third floor; new co-working booths and a refreshed demonstration kitchen on the fourth floor; and enhanced residential corridors meant to create a "brighter, more refined atmosphere." Cordish's renovation preceded One Light's 10th anniversary; the 307-unit building opened in December 2015.

"One Light was the first building in the Power & Light District, and it had to make a statement," district President John Moncke said at a Tuesday press event. "So our goal was to design and develop a building that was on par with the best apartment buildings in cities like San Francisco, New York, LA and Chicago. We believe Kansas City needs residential like that and deserves it, and so now it's no longer necessary to move to the coasts to experience the downtown lifestyle."
