Live! Casino Virginia prepares for January opening in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - Crews installed slot machines and gaming tables at a temporary Live! casino that could open next month pending final approval from the Virginia Lottery.

The 75,000-square-foot facility sits at the intersection of Wagner Road and Brasfield Parkway, near Richmond and the North Carolina border.

Workers transported approximately 915 slot machines into the building, and 30 live gaming tables for games like blackjack were assembled this week.

“This is just the very, very first step in our journey that will bring that full resort development in the next two year window,” said Rob Norton, president of Cordish Gaming.

The casino partnered with local businesses to bring the project to life. Peter Martin, owner of Agent Courier LLC based in Colonial Heights, handled machine transportation.

“We’ve been delivering to Maryland, Pennsylvania and bringing them down here,” Martin said. “It’s bringing a tremendous amount of opportunity for Prince George, Petersburg, Richmond, it’s going to be a big thing for us.”

The temporary casino will employ more than 500 people and they’re currently about 60% staffed, but hope to reach full capacity by opening day on Jan. 22. The full casino resort is set to open in late 2027.
