Local Black leaders honored at 12th annual Heroes Celebration during Black History Month

The Cordish Companies and Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland, partnering with the Md. Washington Minority Companies Association, honored 11 local Black leaders at its 12th Annual Black History Heroes Celebration. The event was held at The HALL at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland during Black History Month.

The ceremony recognized individuals for “their courage, dynamic leadership and impactful contributions serving their fellow Marylanders.” Honorees included Franklyn Baker of United Way of Central Maryland, OJ & Chanda Brigance of Brigance Brigade Foundation, and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, among others.

The 2025 celebration featured a keynote speech from Bishop Frank Madison Reid III and included remarks from Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Serena McIlwain and Mayor Scott. Jason Newton, WBAL TV 11 News Anchor, served as Master of Ceremonies, with musical entertainment provided by Ron Ward Jr. and Friends during the cocktail hour.
